The initial assessment is the first step in the S2C journey and is designed to help set the foundation for future success. During this 50-minute session, the speller is introduced to the letterboards while the practitioner observes motor, sensory, and regulation needs to determine the most appropriate starting point.
By the end of the assessment, an individualized plan is developed to guide future sessions and provide the support needed for continued growth in communication.
Sessions are 50 minutes and offered to individuals ages 5 and up. During sessions, an S2C practitioner works individually with your speller using specific prompting methods and techniques to support motor accuracy, purposeful movement, and communication development. Communication Regulation Partners (CRPs) are encouraged to participate and observe sessions to learn strategies that support their speller’s communication beyond the session. Coaching and guidance for CRPs can also be incorporated directly into sessions to help build confidence, consistency, and carryover at home.
Virtual sessions provide the same individualized instruction and support as in-person sessions, all from the comfort of your home. Using a secure video platform, sessions focus on developing purposeful motor skills, increasing communication accuracy, and building confidence through spelling.
During each session, the practitioner guides the speller through lessons while also coaching the Communication Regulation Partner (CRP) on strategies to support communication outside of sessions. This collaborative approach helps ensure that skills carry over into everyday environments.
Getting started with Speak Unique is a simple, step-by-step process designed to provide individualized support from the very beginning.
The journey begins with a complimentary 20-minute phone consultation. This is an opportunity to discuss your loved one's communication needs, learn more about S2C, and ask any questions you may have. Together, we'll determine whether S2C is the right fit for your family.
Next, a 50-minute assessment introduces your loved one to the letterboards while evaluating their motor and sensory needs. This session helps determine the most appropriate starting letterboard and provides the foundation for an individualized treatment plan.
Once services begin, each 50-minute session focuses on developing purposeful motor skills, strengthening communication accuracy, and building confidence through individualized, age-appropriate instruction. As skills develop, sessions progress toward increasingly independent communication.
Communication doesn't stop when the session ends. Throughout the process, family members and/or Communication Regulation Partners (CRPs) receive coaching and support to help encourage carryover into everyday environments, allowing communication skills to continue growing at home and in the community.
